FAQ

Q: What is STEM?

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Ithaca STEM Advocates works to support STEM-related activities, clubs, teams, events, and classes in the Ithaca City School District (ICSD).

Q: Is Ithaca STEM Advocates a 501(c)(3) non-profit?

We are an affiliate of the Ithaca Public Education Initiative (IPEI). As a result, all donations made to Ithaca STEM Advocates are tax-deductible.

Q: What does Ithaca STEM Advocates do for STEM-related groups and for STEM education in Ithaca in general?

As a new organization, we're still feeling our way into that. We anticipate working to raise money for STEM-related activities in the ICSD, and helping existing STEM-related groups with their own fundraising. We also plan to be applying for STEM-related grants, coordinating donations of appropriate equipment, and helping STEM-related groups collaborate with one another. It is also our hope that we can become a central clearinghouse for information about STEM-related opportunities and events in the Ithaca area.

Q: Only in Ithaca? What about Dryden, Trumansburg, Newfield, and other local school districts?

Sorry, but our charter and affiliation with IPEI restrict our activities to the Ithaca City School District. But, of course, should a similar group wish to form in a nearby area, we'd be happy to provide advice.
